Jobs for 70% of the 2014 agri and vet graduates

Seven out of every 10 agriculture and veterinary graduates in 2014 were in employment nine months after graduation, according to the Higher Education Authority’s annual survey and report on the first destination of graduates.

The report showed that 54% of employed agri and vet graduates were in Ireland, 16% were in overseas employment, and 25%were pursuing further studies.

The employment rate of 2014 agri and vet degree graduates was one of the highest, with only education graduates (79% employed), computer science and ICT (75%), and health and welfare (75%) graduates doing better job-wise.

The reported salary range for agri and vet graduates nine months after graduation was €25,000-€28,999, for 28% of graduates; 24% were earning €29,000-€32,999, and 14% were on €33,000-€36,999.

Honours graduates in education, agriculture and veterinary were those most likely to consider their degree relevant to their work (79%).

Tom Boland, CEO of the HEA, said: “The findings of this report highlight many positive outcomes for graduates.

The report’s findings are based on 18,500 survey responses, representing 69% of Level 8-10 graduates from Ireland’s universities and colleges of education.
