A level-headed woman is what is needed to lead the IFA

As you well know at this stage, I’m far from the sharpest tool in the shed.
A level-headed woman is what is needed to lead the IFA

But even I know how to bring the IFA back from the brink.

Clearly, a new man is needed to steer the IFA ship.

And I know who this man should be. The new man should be a woman.

The IFA have really been let down by a few of their top men, who are more like a bunch of half-castrated old bullocks dancing all over a well made silage pit.

Holes have been poked, great damage has been done.

And I have found, through vast experience, that it’s no good looking at the bullocks to try and find a solution.

A farmer with a big stick is usually the answer for the wayward bullock.

A higher authority, if you like.

A level-headed woman is what is needed to lead the IFA now, not another bullock with notions.

It really has to be a woman calling the shots.

A strong-willed woman with a list of proposals held in her right hand, and a frying pan in the other.

Fundamentally, I see nothing wrong with the IFA executive council, nothing that a close encounter with a frying pan wouldn’t cure.

Or a few swift kicks up the rear end.

I’m telling you, a woman is the only answer, they have a way of making a fellow see sense.

One only has to look at the women in the ICA, to see how excellently an organisation can be run.

Difficulties of course arise, but they never become calamities.

They are ironed out and sorted.

It’s a woman that is needed, as sure as anything.

And a fellow doesn’t have to go as far to the ICA to see just how efficient the female of the species can be.

One only has to cast his gaze around his own home.

They are the ones running the show, we are merely the eye candy.

I have found over the years that women are great at keeping a man’s mind focused on the job ahead.

Clearly, the IFA took its eye off the ball, and it was the poor hardworking farmer who suffered.

The IFA needs to forget about money and concentrate on the farmer.

There is more to farming life than money.

The subsidies and pay-outs should be shared out evenly, no more secrecy, and that should be the end of the matter.

A woman, I feel, would look at the complete farming picture.

For example, what is the IFA doing at present to look after a farmer’s wellbeing, what are they doing to help combat the loneliness and isolation that many feel in rural parts?

What are they doing to help the poor fellow who in the past could go out on a Friday night for a few jars?

I recently, once again, had a caller wondering if there was anything I could do to help him find a partner?

And me doing all I can to hang onto the woman I have!

Alas there was nothing I could offer by way of advice, and worse again, there was no place I could send him.

What is the IFA’s view on the single farmer?

What are they doing as a organisation to help him or her?

In so many ways, right now, the farmers of Ireland badly need a woman’s touch.
