Of course, the report got huge coverage from a media which is always hungry (forgive the pun) for the next sensational scare around food.

The truth — that the report was more targeted at highly processed foods — got lost in the scramble. The more prosaic fact is that the role of red meat in cancer is not actually proven. The WHO actually classified red meat in Group 2A, which says “there is limited evidence, but other explanations for the observations could not be ruled out”.
