Why has Irish dairy failed to move towards consolidation?

More than five years ago, ICOS ramped up its efforts to promote a debate among its co-ops, urging them to focus on the savings to be gained from sharing production costs with their neighbours.
ICOS has long sought to use its unique position to foster this debate. The representative body for Ireland’s co-ops and livestock marts, it is at once a voice for the processors and for farmers, engaged but also independent. Certainly, its voice is not dominated by any one co-op over another.
