Magnum 380 CVX Tractor of the Year
The prestigious prize recognises technological achievements in agricultural engineering, and was adjudicated by journalists from trade magazines in 23 European countries.
First launched in 1987, the Magnum series has been improved for higher performance and productivity, lower fuel consumption and emissions, and better operator comfort.
It includes CVX variable transmission, LED lighting packages, and innovative transmission of power to the ground with minimal soil disturbance.
The UK, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands and the Nordic countries are rated the top European performers in “cleantech” innovation and commercialisation of technology which reduces environmental footprint and minimises pollution.
But Israel, Finland and the US top the Global Cleantech Innovation Index 2014, by providing the best political, social and financial conditions.
The Index was published by the Cleantech Group and World Wildlife Fund. Russia and Greece are the laggards, attributed to Greece’s tough austerity measures, and Russia’s focus on its vast oil and gas resources instead of exploiting available cleantech resources.
Two Cork-based scientific organisations have joined a Europe-wide collaboration to develop a domestic water quality test device.
Users will be able to rapidly screen for harmful chemical and biological hazards, including e-coli bacteria. Tyndall National Institute and Environmental Laboratories Services Ltd are taking part in the €6m EU project.
As well as its importance to users in the home, consumers and regulators demand that water used in the food, beverage and agricultural industry must be safe from farm to fork.
A spokesperson said the project is a direct response to the need to safeguard health in consumable water for the people of Europe, in the home and on the farm.
