Kerry gem comes with large forest

If there was a time a squirrel could travel from one end of Ireland to the other without touching ground, it’s likely never to come again.
Kerry gem comes with large forest

Strict rules governing forestry and environmental factors governing coniferous forestry in particular mean the squirrel would have to fly (an evolutionary prospect that might take time).

Forestry now comes in separate parcels only, and one of them is one the market at Barraduff, Killarney.

It is close to coming to endgame for this parcel of hardwood or deciduous forestry, according to auctioneer Tadhg Gallivan, who needs just an extra €10k on top of the €110,000 offered to bring it to contract stage.

The 58-acre property at Upper Barraduff, just seven or eight miles outside Killarney, includes 33 acres of forestry, which is close to the harvesting stage.

The remainder includes about two acres of good quality ground, with the rest being heavy and low-lying land, which is protected, and not suitable for planting.

However, it does include a small copse of native hazel woodland with a waterfall — exceedingly picturesque, according to Mr Gallivan. Last offers are now being sought by the agent who’s seeking €120,000 in total.
