Farmers call for crackdown on the illegal butchering of carcasses
The call followed the discovery of six sets of cattle remains near Ravensdale Forest, close to the border in Co Louth.
Louth County Council, the Garda and the Food Safety Authority are investigating the discovery of the carcasses which may have come from an illegal meat boning plant.
It is believed the carcasses were expertly butchered and that the meat was probably sold for human consumption.
ICSA’s Connaught Ulster vice president John Flynn said the first priority must be to track down those responsible and ensure that prosecutions are brought sooner rather than later.
