Farmers call for crackdown on the illegal butchering of carcasses

A crackdown by the authorities on the illegal butchering of cattle carcasses is being sought by the Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers’ Association.

The call followed the discovery of six sets of cattle remains near Ravensdale Forest, close to the border in Co Louth.

Louth County Council, the Garda and the Food Safety Authority are investigating the discovery of the carcasses which may have come from an illegal meat boning plant.
