10% fine for AEOS 2 failures

If you are one of the 6,832 farmers who applied for AEOS 2 in May 2011, are you fully aware of what you have you to do once approved into the scheme?

10% fine for AEOS 2 failures

And how does it differ from AEOS 1? Firstly, you must undertake all actions applied for in your application (unlike AEOS 1, where it was decided last October to allow reduction or removal of actions other than the minimum entry requirement of two specific actions).

Non-delivery of approved actions in AEOS 2 will result in a 10% penalty.

Trees and hedgerows must be planted by the end of March.

Farmers in AEOS 2 (not AEOS 1) must take soil samples before Mar 31, 2012 of all lands declared for the single payment in 2011, in accordance with the nitrates regulations, if the land is being farmed in 2012. Soil analyis on or after Jan 1, 2010 will fulfil this requirement. Form SS must be signed by farmers, to declare they have carried out sampling on eligible land and submitted it to the department in Johnstown Castle Estate, Co Wexford, by Apr 30.

Commonage land does not have to be soil sampled. Full LPIS parcels of privately owned mountain type land and rough grazing will also be exempted from the requirement to have soil samples analysed — provided that a declaration is submitted that the exempted land will receive no applications of organic or chemical fertilisers for the duration of the AEOS 2 contract. All exempted land will be assumed to be at phosphorus Index 4 for cross-compliance purposes. Form SS must be used by farmers availing of the exemption, co-signed by a registered planner. It is not required for commonage.

Farmers in both AEOS 1 and AEOS 2 who undertook the option of Species Rich Grassland are allowed to apply up to 30 kg per hectare (24 units per acre) of nitrogen or phosphorus or a combination of nitrogen and phosphorus on this land.
