ICMSA has been branded as misogynist by Fianna Fáil senator Mary White.

TD attacks ICMSA’s ‘poor representation of women’

On two recent occasions in the Seanad she highlighted the poor representation of women on its governing council — only one woman among 93 members.

When Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney addressed senators last week, Ms White told him it was “a serious human rights issue”. She said, “I am relying on the minister to get democracy into the misogynist ICMSA.

“I will watch this very carefully. It is my duty here to promote the role of women in society.”

She said west Cork dairy farmer Eileen Calnan, was prevented from voting under exceptional circumstances in recent ICMSA elections, whereas a gentleman was allowed to do so three years ago.
