Dairy farm for cool €1m
According to Eamonn O’Brien, of CCM Mitchelstown, this Rathcoole dairy farm in north Cork has a great ratio of land to quota — 74 acres to 75,971 gallons, and a purchase now would see that allowed against over-production in other dairy farms. This means dairy farmers could buy here and use the quota to offset against milk on their own farms, before March 31 of next year.
So drying-off of cows could be avoided and the farm would also provide silage or a grazing for replacements.
At the moment, it’s producing 90,000 gallons, says O’Brien (quota is leased), and has capacity for breeding stock too, he says.
The retirement sale includes a traditional, two-storey farmhouse, a yard with milking parlour and other outhouses, and the property would be an ideal add-on, or suitable for a young farmer starting out, he says.
The guide price, which includes the land, house, yard and quota, works out at €13,500 per acre, and if a sale is fast enough it could be offset against other capacity immediately, says O’Brien.
The farm is located at Rathcoole, Mallow, but is less than four miles from Millstreet — it’s an easily-managed property, says the agent, and comes with plenty of road frontage.
The milk quota on the farm is split between Kerry and Dairygold.
