History and much more goes on show tomorrow

VISITORS to this weekend’s Cork Summer Show can reflect on the event’s long history by buying a new book, Munster Agricultural Society — the Story of the Cork Showgrounds.

History and much more goes on show tomorrow

Written by Kieran McCarthy, and published just in time to go on sale at the show which runs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the book relates how the society was founded in 1806 to promote annual exhibitions of livestock, and help in the general education of the rural communities.

From 1891 to 2008 the society hosted the Cork Summer Show in Ballintemple.

The 2011 show gets under way tomorrow at 1pm at Greenfields, Ballincollig, continuing all day on Saturday and Sunday.
