Country girls to vie for Queen of the Land title
Over three, event-packed days sponsored by Aviva, a distinguished judging panel will take into account appearance, personality, energy, confidence, dress sense, rural knowledge and elocution to choose the contestant who best exudes the qualities of today’s modern, rural woman.
The 2010 judging panel are: RTÉ news sports presenter and Offaly native, Eamon Horan, Aviva branch sales manager in Portlaoise, Patricia McNamara, and reigning 2009 Queen of the Land, Sinead Mulcahy (who represented Offaly, but is originally from Ardagh, Co Limerick).
The Queen of the Land festival opens at 9pm on Friday in the Bridge House Hotel. Comedian Jason Byrne takes the stage at 10.30pm.
Queen of the Land interviews start Saturday morning, the girls will be introduced to their escorts in the afternoon, and they face, on stage, public interviews that night, conducted by 3e weather presenter, Deric Hartigan.
The gala festival banquet takes place Sunday evening, before the announcement and crowning of the 2010 Queen of the Land, at 11pm, and of the first and second title runners-up.
There’s €1,400 in cash prizes, trophies, and weekend breaks for the winners, and mementoes for all contestants.
Once again, the festival has an international element, with girls from Germany and England participating (see Munster contenders, pictured).
