Businessman buys estate from co-op
Now, the 1,220 acre holding on the sunny south-east coast, comprising mostly rich polder land, has finally been sold by owners Lee Strand Co-operative Creamery Ltd in Tralee, Co Kerry.
John Radford of Sherry FitzGerald Radford was the selling agent, following the re-launch of the farm on the market earlier this year. The buyer is believed to be a Co Wexford business man who intends to lease out the land.
The prime arable ground was originally purchased by the Co Kerry co-op for its large milk quota, and while it has been under-utilised in recent years, it offers a “blank canvas” operation for new owners.
Its size is eclipsed by a similar polder holding on the South Sloblands, which went to market with Jackson Stops in 2004. That holding was a sale of the year, too, with 2,050 acres going to a local businessman for a sum in excess of its guide price of €8 million – a substantial sale even in 2004.
The North Slob farm had been on the market at more than €10m, and is now believed to have been sold for marginally more than €5.75m – about €4,700 per acre.
