Development likely for farmland
The 8.5 acres of farmland, just outside Clonakilty in west Cork, was an obvious development play, but Maeve McCarthy of Charles McCarthy and Co played it very low-key prior to auction on December 19, not even quoting a guide price.
The property made €700,000 at auction, even though it has no zoning at present, and has been used for agricultural purposes.
The wooded and attractive holding is, however, on the boundaries of the tourist town, and it’s likely to be used for a low-density, high-value development.
The developer was responsible for the award-winning Glebe development in Emmet Place in the town — an architecturally significant Georgian terrace. His company is also involved in developing the former GAA grounds in Clonakilty and in other substantial land banks in the area.
