Farm sells at €727,000, for alternative use
Stunning scenery and a holding of some 244 acres were part of the draw, but wood and wind were the main reasons for the large turnout. The mountainy farm in south west Kerry was put up for auction with Michael Dan Lynch of Remax Coastal Properties and opened at €450,000.
The bidding went up in ten thousands until the property was put on the market at €650,000. There were five keen bidders at that stage, according to Mr Lynch, and the farm was eventually knocked down at €727,000.
The agent wouldn’t disclose the identity of the buyer, but it’s believed to be someone with alternative energy interests from the Castletownbere area of West Cork.
Most of the bidding came from that quarter, too, he indicated.
The Derrencullig property is close to a neighbouring wind farm and had been used for sheep up to its sale.
The auction realised a strong sale price for the property, which was guided at €2,000 per acre or €488,000.
The sale includes a yard with good facilities and a two-storey dwelling in need of restoration and modernisation.
Located at the end of a cul-de-sac, the property is five miles from Kilgarvan village and close to Mangerton.
