Bishopstown shows the way
Like so many city guilds around the country, it has a strong membership and lots of interesting activities.
The guild has now resumed meetings after the summer recess, at the SMA hall in Wilton and new members are welcome.
Phil O’Leary has stepped down as president after three years and new president Paula Kelleher, “a very popular choice”, has taken over, with officers Brenda Dennehy as secretary and Kay Lucey as treasurer.
The past year has been a very successful and interesting one. The guild competed in most of the federation competitions and brought back many prizes on Federation Day. A trip to the greyhound track with dinner and a night bowling at the Mardyke centre was great fun. Line dancing classes and yoga were among many other activities enjoyed. A walking group formed some years ago by Maureen O’Reilly, assisted by Dolly Keohane, is still going strong. The group walks in the Lee Fields at 10.30am each Wednesday morning and enjoys coffee afterwards in the Kingsley Hotel. Hopefully, more members will become interested and keep up this very pleasant exercise during winter.
The guild’s annual outing was in June to Killarney and dinner in the Brehon Hotel.
The highlight of the year, the guild trip to an Grianán, was enjoyed from September 17-21. It’s a most relaxing place to refresh mind and body. All members are now looking forward to meeting again with friends and enjoying the year ahead.
