Every tonne could be worth €200
IFA National Grain Committee Chairman Colum McDonnell has warned them not to sell for less than €200 per tonne for wheat and €185 for green wheat and barley.
If these prices were not forthcoming, growers should retain ownership and do a deal on drying and storage, said Mr McDonnell.
There were fears last week that up to 25% of Ireland’s grain could be lost unless the weather improved and fields dried up. Only a fraction of spring barley and winter wheat had been harvested up to this week.
Meanwhile, Irish feed compounders have been shopping for feed wheat in France, and flour and oat-based foods producer Odlums has warned wheat crops will increase in price by at least 30% and indicated that flour prices will increase over €90 a tonne.
