Moorepark Open Day to focus on increasing milk profit
New grassland management technology, high EBI genetics, labour efficiency, high milk quality and increased nutrient efficiency will allow dairy farmers to increase scale while at the same time reduce the unit cost of milk production, said Pat Dillon, the head of Teagasc Dairy Production Research Centre, at the launch of the event.
The Open Day will focus on the importance of acquiring and applying new skills and knowledge for more efficient milk production as farmers prepare for the likely phased increase in milk quota from 2009. New blueprints will be revealed for dairy farmers to expand in a non-milk quota scenario.
A recent survey indicated large potential for expansion on most Irish dairy farms, and possible expansion scenarios will be discussed at the open day.
Also on display will be new products emerging from the Teagasc dairy products research programme to satisfy new dietary demands, changes in consumer age profile, and demands for convenience, wholesomeness and variety.
The open day will include a conference on ‘Irish Dairying — winning on a world stage’.
