Cherokee fungicide controls Septoria tritici
It is recommended for control of Septoria tritici, brown and yellow rust, and for moderate control of mildew in wheat and broad-spectrum disease control in barley (including ‘blotching’)
It offers excellent value for money, according to Billy Cotter, business manager of Syngenta Ireland, because it was developed from existing products, without the high costs of bringing active ingredients to the market.
Recommended key usage timings are T0, T1 and T2 in winter wheat; T2 in spring wheat; T1 and T2 in spring barley; and possibly between T1 and T2 in winter barley.
With high disease pressure this season an early-season T0 application in winter wheat could be particularly useful, according to Mr Cotter. Cherokee delivers a high triazole dose plus chlorothalonil at a low cost per hectare. It can be used alone or in a tank mix. The full application rate is 2.0 litres per hectare, but he recommends one litre at T0 in winter wheat, or 1.25 litres if Septoria pressure is high.
“The one litre per hectare rate will deliver three quarters of a litre of Bravo per hectare and more than a full dose of triazole fungicide. A crop height reduction has been observed in trials where Cherokee has been applied at T0 / T1 timings. This is due to the PGR effect of cyproconazole. This effect will provide a boost to a normal plant growth regulator programme.”
