‘Gold coast’ farm for €1.2 million

WHERE would you get it?

‘Gold coast’ farm for €1.2 million

A farm of 77.5 acres with sea views and enough ruins for a small village?

The answer? In Gubbeen, near Schull in west Cork, where Liam Hodnett of ERA Liam Hodnett is selling 77.5 acres, looking for offers of €1.2 million.

A prime piece of ground, it’s only three miles from Schull, and even has frontage onto Croagh, or Crewe Bay.

The big attraction has to be the two derelict dwellings on the land, which are more or less a shoe-in for planning permission in this “Gold Coast” location.

The first is a traditional, two-storey stone farmhouse with a range of outbuildings, including another two-storey dwelling.

Then there’s the former garden that incorporates an orchard and some other structures that have road and sea frontage. Because of this sprinkling of dwellings, and because the land hasn’t been extensively farmed, the property could be ideal for a health farm or organic retreat.

And, of course, the townland name is a hugely identifiable brand on a national and international level — thanks to the great success of the Ferguson family’s award-winning cheese of the same name, produced locally.

The lands may be in a state of nature at the moment, says Liam Hodnett, and neglected over time, but they’re not so far gone that they could not be reclaimed.
