Guild meets the President
On July 6, eight members of the guild, which is just over the border from Co Cork, were invited to Áras an Uachtaráin to attend a garden party hosted by President Mary McAleese and her husband, Dr Martin McAleese.
They set off from Ardmore at 6.00am to catch the 7.30am train to Dublin. At the train station they encountered ICA members from other guilds, all of them bound for the same venue.
On arrival at Áras an Uachtaráin they were presented to the President and her husband. They were then at leisure to explore and to enjoy the entertainment and refreshments which were located at various sites around the grounds.
Following an address by the President, the visit ended with a guided tour of the formal rooms.
As a group, members said they appreciated the thought and effort that had gone into the occasion and the warm welcome that they received.
Members said they finally arrived home in a sorry state, weary and foot sore, but it had been a very enjoyable day and one which they would not have missed for anything.
