Trainer puts stud farm on market for €1.3m

According to Clonakilty-based Mr Hodnett, this stud farm package offers very good value at the asking price of €1.3 million. Liscarroll and its surrounding areas are noted for horses, and the limestone ground is ideal for breeding and training.

The centrepiece of the 26-acre property is the four-bedroomed period residence, Farm Hill House, which has been comprehensively made over by Terry Jennings.

It now offers luxurious, all en-suite accommodation, with two formal reception rooms and an immaculate country kitchen complete with Aga.

New mahogany doors, new plasterwork and central heating, as well as a storm porch, have been added, making the house “a walk-in”.

The yard is equally impressive, housing A Touch of Grey, which won the Wokingham Stakes at Ascot in the 1980s, now a 26-year-old. The yard is set to the rear of the house and is well-managed and efficiently planned. A horse walker is set in the centre of the courtyard and the former outhouses have been re-roofed and now house a number of loose boxes on two sides.

At the far end, there are two large sheds, one with an indoor area and there’s also a smaller sand arena outside.

One remaining block behind the house is still being completed, but should be finished shortly, says Mr Hodnett.

The land is bounded by state forestry and is gently sloping, while the farmhouse and yard are set on the highest ground for miles, and have breath-taking views.

Most of the land is paddocked and it’s all in grass, with outdoor shelters for the horses in some of the fields.

There’s an electronic entrance gate and the house is just a couple of minutes drive from Liscarroll village, which has one of the most magnificent castles of north Cork in its centre.

Farm Hill House is also close to Mallow and Charleville; Cork city is an hour’s drive away.
