Concern over medicine regulations

ICSA president Malcolm Thompson has expressed concern about the draft regulations regarding prescription-only medicines (POM’s), issued by the Department of Agriculture and Food.

“The entire approach hinges on the Department obtaining exemptions from Europe on medicines which are freely available. If these exemptions are not forthcoming then the proposed regime will represent a total capitulation to the vested interest of the vets,” he said.

Mr Thompson said the Minister should consider adopting the British system which allows licensed merchants prescribe routine remedies.
