Meere filly a champion

CLARE horse exhibitor PJ Meere captured the 2,000 Irish Shows Association three-year-old filly championship at Bantry Show.

Last year's winner, Desmond Gibson, Co Down, was back to take second prize, while equestrian journalist Ruth Loney, Richill, Co Armagh, took the third place.

The 1,400 commercial beef calf final was won by Ger Ryan, Fermoy (reserve, Clive Jennings, Enniskeane).

Frankie Cunningham, Leamybrien, Co Waterford, won the top prize in the All Ireland 1,000 Scotch ram class, sponsored by Denis O'Donovan, TD, and Bantry Tyre Centre.

An estimated 10,000 attended on the grounds of Rowa Pharmaceuticals.
