Tipp gelding reigns supreme at RDS
The four year old gelding bred in Co Tipperary, by Ricardo Z out of the thoroughbred Inch Madam, had won six championships and four reserves in the run up to Dublin.
Kelly Troughton, Portadown, was on board the winner, whose 10 year old Belgian bred sire stands at Tom and Magette Meagher's Kedrah House Stud, near Cashel.
Placed second at Balmoral Show last May to Connswater, Lorenzo reversed placings at Dublin with Rose Boyd of Lurgan, Co Armagh's heavyweight champion, a chestnut gelding by Amiro out of Liberty Blaze, ridden by Aaron McCusker, whose father, Hugh, produced the animal.
Lorenzo has been sold to English buyers Geoff and Gill Gale.
Newcastle, Co Wicklow woman Daphne Tierney, won the medium-weight title with a four-year-old exhibitor-bred grey mare, Bloomfield Rebekah, by Sea Crest, an Irish Draught, out of the thoroughbred, Aerlite Classic. Jane Bradbury was on board.
The breeders championship was won for the seventh time by Hurst Show Horses, Lisbellaw, Co Fermanagh, this time with the eight-year-old mare, Tattygare Golden Moments, by Euphemism out of Golden Cameo.
The foal at foot was born in March.
Mayo's Tiernan Gill, Ballina, showed the champion and reserve young horse championship, after capturing the two and three year old titles. But Northern Ireland exhibitors again dominated many of the showing classes.
The highlight was Ireland's victory in the Samsung Super League Nation's Cup (Aga Khan Trophy).
