Irish food celebrated at Farmleigh
Food at Farmleigh, presented by the Office of Public Works, in association with Bord Bia, is part of a four-month public access programme.
The OPW invited chefs, food producers, food writers and poets to share their interpretation and appreciation of Farmleigh's role as the State's premier hospitality facility, using the best of Irish produce.
Bord Bia is providing Irish food ingredients for celebrity kitchen events by top chefs. Paul Rankin prepared a meal for guests yesterday and Richard Corrigan will do likewise on September 26.
Readings by leading poets Peter Sirr on Friday of last week and Nuala Ni Dhomhnaill next Friday were chosen to reflect the importance of food.
Weekly food talks and demonstrations including Derry Clarke of L'Ecrivain (tomorrow), Leylie Hayes, Avoca Cafes (Sep 28), and food writer Tom Doorley (Sep 21) were also arranged.
A farmers' market takes place every Sunday in September from 12-4pm.
It features a wide-range of Irish organic produce meat, fish, vegetables, fruit, bread, cheese and pates.
Farmleigh had a working farm which supplied the household. Minister of State Tom Parlon said Food at Farmleigh gives an opportunity to showcase the excellence of Irish food in September.
Music, gardening and literature are other themes being used to interpret the character of the property.
