Blueprints for profitable beef production in the radical new policy environment, which starts in January, were outlined by Teagasc at the national beef open day in Grange, Co Meath, yesterday.

Leading research scientists and advisory specialists presented the latest technology on breeding, feeding, animal health and cost control to the country’s most progressive beef farmers.

Grange Research Centre’s head Dr Eddie O’Riordan said farmers who adopted the best breeding strategies could expect to prosper under the new market-driven policy, with research showing high quality beef delivering more than €200 per hectare.
