Three Monsanto GM corn varieties ‘safe’
“Experts concluded that there are no concerns over the safety of the maize hybrids,” the European Food Safety Authority said today in a statement from Parma, Italy.
“These are not different from their conventional counterparts with regard to their safety and nutritional properties.” The cross-bred corn varieties, designed to combine protections against different insects and resistance to herbicides, must now be approved by the EU’s governments before being allowed onto the market. The process can take years.
