Cow art proves a motorway treat for drivers

IT wasn't the grass tetany that struck down one of the special cows grazing the lush pastures of the long acre, beside the N7 in Co Limerick.

The cow lying 'low' beside the by-pass motorway near Annacotty has fallen victim to an attack of vandalism, which will require more than a dose of magnesium to get her back on her feet again.

Heavy steel was no deterrent to whoever attacked the cow, which forms part of the art work much admired by thousands who pass on the new €100m motorway each day.

The landmark artwork of life sized, silhouette cows, each measuring six feet high and nine feet long, is the work of Irish American artist Jim Collins, based in Chatanooga, Tennessee, who won an international design competition for the roadside artwork, which symbolises the dairying tradition of Co Limerick.
