50-acre site is ‘the most exciting piece of land to come on the market’

ONE of the most exciting pieces of land to come on the market, is how auctioneer Dan Fleming describes a 50-acre field at Ballyveelick, Castletownroche, Co Cork.

The area is famed for its tillage land, he says, and has some of the highest yields in the country.

Limestone and alluvial deposits from the Blackwater River are the key to what Mr Fleming describes as some of the best in the country, in this field.

With that build-up, you’d expect a high per-acre-value, but Mr Fleming’s reserve prior to the auction on November 18 is €12,000 per acre.

The land is very attractive for local dairy farmers, says the agent, who says cattle graze for most of the year on this dry farmland.

The land is just after wheat, and still has a crop of beet, says the agent.

Road frontage is limited to a shared access point, but that shouldn’t put off farmers, as the land is so special, he says.

The farm is 10 minutes from Castletownroche, six miles from Mallow town and close to Killavullen.
