Apple growers to share ideas

TEAGASC is organising an Apple Open Day next week in Kildalton College to be held on Thursday, September 8.

The event is being run in conjunction with Irish Apple Growers Association.

According to Harry O’Brien, Teagasc’s Fruit Specialist, the day is an opportunity to meet and exchange views among other growers.

The highlight of the event should be the trial of the biological control over red spider mites. Dave Foster from Koppert Ltd will outline the procedure adopted in the trial and the results will be evident on the day.

Other items covered at the event will be the Kildalton Spray Programme and also the Armagh Spray Programme as well as grower experience.

Bernard Rice, from Teagasc, Oak Park, will give a demonstration on the proper setting of the orchard sprayer.
