Daniel Bresnan’s painting depicting people working with farmers caught the imagination of the judges in the competition run by Agri Aware in association with the FBD Trust.

Agri Aware chairman TJ Maher said it is committed to educating young people about farming and increasing their appreciation for Irish agriculture. The entries for the competition clearly showed children are very knowledgeable about agriculture. They displayed their knowledge of agriculture and farming in an artistic way.

All the students who entered the competition had seen Agriculture-Cool or What?, an Agri Aware animated educational video distributed to each of the country’s 3,300 primary schools.

An estimated 150,000 primary school students have watched the video, which investigates the chain of food production from the farm to the table.

FBD Trust secretary David Flynn said the company had been associated with the Springtime on the Farm art competition for the past four years. The video and education pack represented an excellent development this year.

“We are very conscious of the issues in agriculture and farming at present and we are pleased to support Agri Aware in this initiative which encourages our younger generation to understand and appreciate agriculture.”
