Producer group beefs up Angus freezer market
The Irish Angus Producer Group said the three types of freezer pack will contain a quality product with full traceability and guaranteed Irish.
Producer Group chairman, Tim Dunne, Johnstown House, Mitchelstown, Co Cork, said the group members are very proud of their quality product and stand over it.
“We are obligated to pursue every market we can find for our product,” he said, explaining the reasoning behind the move.
Michael Flanagan, Moydrum Castle Pedigree Herds, Athlone, Co Westmeath, a director of the Producer Group, predicted that the pack is going to be a huge success.
“We have more than 800 producers in the group at the moment and the number is growing all the time, We organise the producers and Kepak do the slaughtering for us.
“Our outlet is in the Tesco supermarket chain and we have some of the top restaurants in the country taking certified Irish Angus beef as well,” he said. The freezer packs can also be ordered from the group’s area directors, who also include Jim Foley, Rathanna, Sligo; Roy Fossit, Geashill, Co Offaly; Seamus Caulfield, Carrick on Shannon, and Joe Tighe, Batterstown, Co Meath.
Mr Flanagan said the producers decided to go down this route because they knew there was a niche market for Angus beef, which is synonymous world wide with quality.
“We saw there was a market here for it and we went and developed it. We are going from strength to strength. The housewife is really on a winner with Irish Angus beef as regards quality and traceability,” he said.
