One law for farms, says IFA

One law for farms, says IFA

"It has reached the point where a farmer cannot empty a septic tank for a neighbour without a collection licence and a disposal licence being issued by the local authority. If a farmer gets a land fill licence, he is also responsible for ensuring that nothing other than the permitted material is brought on to the land", said Mr O'Flynn.

John McNamara, Kilmallock, said that it was time local authorities practiced what they preached.

"Raw sewage is allowed flow into waterways by local authorities."

The meeting was told of several locations at which untreated sewage is allegedly allowed into waterways, and IFA delegates suggested these outflows should be sampled and tested, and the results highlighted.
