Fergie’s chance to re-live his Euro vision

SQUEAKY-BUMMED terror, tearful total joy and sweat-stained relief: Tuesday night was what football emotion is all about.

Braced for what could be the best Red week of the century

ONE spends much of any season these days complaining about the grim plastic fraud of the modern game but every now and then you get an afternoon like last Saturday to keep you hooked nonetheless. Ewood Park was everything you want the football experience to be about: a fittingly throbbing start to what could be the best Red week of the century.

Brucey gives special bonus as Good Old Days here again

THERE’S something about a double-act that fascinates in any walk of life.

Conquering of Romans the real reason for Bertie’s exit

I DOUBT anyone will ever top Garret FitzGerald in my list of Five Fave Irish Leaders (in my fantasy play-off, he beat Michael Collins after extra-time) but, like most Manc Reds, I had a big soft spot for Bertie Ahern, due to his evident love of the Reds. Wary of the consequences of enjoying too much success

Reds for Red Square, but Bolton come first
SO much for the predicted stroll in the Pride Park. Saturday was much hairier than desired and constituted another wayward performance to add to the growing list of such underwhelming shows since Christmas.

Title in our hands but plenty of work left yet
MY esteemed colleague Mr Azulay will doubtless explain alongside this column how his Wonder Boys can slay European Champions one day then allow themselves to be turned into chump pies at Wigan but the Rubicon is thus crossed: somehow, after a weekend during which we quite frankly embarrassed ourselves, suddenly the Title is now in our own hands, not theirs.

Tinkering is not the way to go Fergie
SO, did we get safely through last night?

Points haul masks poor displays
THERE’S nowhere better to go than the North-East when we’ve had a bit of trouble his season, it would seem. After the Christmas party scandal, a dreadful Sunderland compliantly rolled over to help us cover the wounds; now, after the alarmingly poor show and lucky escape in Lyon, wretched Newcastle duly played the patsy.
