May I draw your readers’ attention to the closing date of July 31 for submissions to the ‘Green Paper on Energy Policy in Ireland’?

I take issue with your recent editorial (‘Terror rules in Gaza and in Ukraine, Irish Examiner, July 21), because you refer to "Israel’s terror campaign" and make outrageous comments about my country.

Fergus Finlay in his opinion piece (July 22) cynically assumes that the Israeli Defence forces (IDF) engage in indiscriminate attacks.

I welcome the appointment of former President Mary Robinson as the UN special envoy for climate change.

You reported, last Friday (July 18), the claim by the Irish Cancer Society (ICS) that the rate of tobacco smuggling is falling, and that this should enable the Government to increase tax on cigarettes.

We are encouraged, and encourage our children, to remember the horrors of the Holocaust.

It is reported that money owed by members of the Oireachtas to the in-house restaurant/bar may be passed to a debt-collection agency.

The shooting down by missile last week over the Ukraine of a commercial passenger flight from Amsterdam international airport to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, with some of the passengers en route to Australia, is serious for the safety of international flights as the airline believed it was safe to fly on the usual route over the Ukraine and the plane was 1,000 feet above the danger zone.
