I read with interest Michael Clifford’s article of July 26 (‘A blustery reception for wind turbines as locals voice their opposition’) which reported that a local woman, Marina Reilly from Castletown, Co Meath, was given an assurance by the Taoiseach that health problems would be taken into account in the review of the 2006 Wind Energy Development Guidelines.
The newspapers are criticising Israel regarding Gaza. To love and support the Jewish state may seem like defending the indefensible, but much truth is left out in the media reports.

Yet again, the summer school in Glenties, which bears the name of Patrick MacGill, has ignored both the writer and his participation in World War 1. That this should be the case in the war’s centenary year is a glaring omission.

Re Cllr Michael Gleeson’s letter (August 1) about the proliferation of Japanese knotweed in this country — I agree that it’s time the authorities (Dept of Agriculture, etc) woke up and took this devastating weed seriously.
Last week, Glasnevin cemetery had a ceremony for Irish service men and women who served in World Wars 1 and 2, and for WWI’s 100th anniversary.
