I was touched, and surprised, by your editorial of Friday, May 20, headlined ‘Trying to understand suicide/Figures show we need to do far more’. I was touched by your compassion and surprised by your mention of “variations in metabolism”.

I am writing to you in response to your article, ‘Just two asylum-seeking students get grants for third-level accessibility’ (Irish Examiner, May 23, 2016). 

Your editorial of Friday, May 20, claimed that “three senior ministers — Michael Noonan, Leo Varadkar and Brendan Howlin — proposed spectacular cuts (€35m) to the already modest mental health budget”. This is incorrect.

Of the six priests recently censored by the Vatican, I can’t recall any of them advising anyone to break any of the Ten Commandments.

In light of all the recent negativity relating to the ambulance service and the accident-and-emergency department at Cork University Hospital, I feel I have to express my gratitude, and praise, following recent personal experience with my 80-year-old mother.

So now it’s official.
