Eufy Omni S2 robot vacuum review: Ozone sterilisation and self-cleaning rollers in action

With its sophisticated self-cleaning roller, integrated ozone sterilisation, and an extendable mop for edge cleaning, the Eufy Omni S2 offers a premium, hands-off solution for pet owners and busy households seeking a deeper clean.

The first robot vacuum I reviewed was an Eufy, and it was a workhorse, but their more recent robots are so much more than basic floor cleaners. The Eufy S2 brings a fresh approach to automated floor care with a sophisticated self-cleaning roller system. It also features integrated ozone sterilisation and an extendable mop that handles the mess left behind by pets and busy households.

Design and build

The Eufy S2 uses state-of-the-art technology packaged in a premium, futuristic and compact profile. It comprises a tall dock with a slim profile that won't dominate your living space. Much like its predecessor, the S2 uses a tower-style design for the docking station, which keeps the footprint small.

The dustbin features a transparent casing that houses internal lights. When the vacuum is active, these lights glow with an intensity reminiscent of an arc reactor from a sci-built suit. This isn't just for show; it provides a clear view of the debris being collected as the suction works.

The sensors are placed around the perimeter to prevent falls and detect obstacles. The entire unit looks futuristic, fitting well into a contemporary home. I particularly liked how the water tanks are integrated. You can see exactly how much clean water remains at any time through the clear window on the top of the dock. This transparency extends to the dirty water tank as well, making it easy to monitor how much grime has been lifted from your floors throughout the cleaning cycle.

Docking features

The docking station functions as a full-scale maintenance hub. It houses both clean and dirty water tanks, which are large enough to handle significant cleaning sessions without constant intervention. Pulling the dirty water tank out is simple thanks to the sturdy handle, though you must empty it regularly to prevent any unpleasant odours from developing.

The station handles the heavy lifting of maintenance. When the robot returns, the dock automatically empties the dustbin. Beyond just emptying debris, the system uses hot water to clean the mop roller. This heat is essential for breaking down grime and ensuring the roller stays fresh.

One of the S2's selling points is its ozone function. As the station processes the water, you can actually see bubbles forming in the transparent sections, indicating that the ozone is active. This process helps sterilise the components, ensuring that the mop does not simply move dirt around from one room to another. The interface on the dock also features a small display with animations. It shows real-time updates, such as when the clean water tank is removed or when ozone generation starts.

Under the hood, the Eufy S2 relies on Aeroturbo 2.0 technology to maintain high suction levels. During my testing, the 3,000 Pa suction remained consistent, pulling fine dust from the narrow gaps between my wooden floorboards and deep into the fibres of my rugs.

The dual spiral detangling brushes are designed to prevent hair from wrapping around the rollers. As someone who lives with pets, I find pet hair a constant problem. With the S2, the hair seems to pass through the bristles without causing jams or slowing the motor.

The robot also includes an air fragrance cartridge. This adds a pleasant scent to your home as the machine moves from room to room during its cycle. I’m not a huge fan of any kind of fragrance in my home, but it’s a matter of personal preference.

The robot also features a lifting mechanism. When it encounters a threshold or doorway, the wheels extend upward by more than two centimetres, allowing it to transition between different floor heights without getting stuck.

Extended cleaning

The S2 introduces an interesting hardware solution for edge cleaning through its extended mop system. Instead of relying solely on a fixed circular motion, the mop roller can actually extend outwards. This mechanical movement allows the robot to reach much closer to the edges of skirting and furniture.

During my testing along the perimeter of our hallway, the coverage was impressive. However, instead of a steady, straight line, I found the robot tended to wobble in and out. This meant it didn’t always clean right up to the edges effectively, missing spots. Hopefully, this will be fixed in a firmware update.

Cleaning performance

Testing the S2 meant setting up an intentional obstacle course with common objects like cables, socks, toys and shoes. To my surprise, the robot identified each object and steered around them perfectly, preventing any messy tangles.

Using a fresh, liquid sauce, I wanted to see if the robot would simply smear the mess across the floor. The HydroJet 2.0 self-cleaning roller handled this remarkably well, picking up the sauce without leaving a streak, proving that continuous roller cleaning works as promised.

Walking barefoot on my tiles after a session, you can physically feel the lack of grit or residue. The combination of 99.99% sterilisation and the self-cleaning roller ensures the floor feels really clean, not just damp.

Suction power has jumped significantly from the 8,000 Pa on the S1 Pro, alongside a multi-cone cyclone dustbin that pulls heavier dust and hair out of the airflow before they reach the filter, preventing clogs and keeping the airflow steady. Eufy claims this is the only robot vacuum and mop to house multi-cone cyclone technology directly within the machine, rather than relying on the docking station or using it only in handheld vacuums.

The Eufy app is a mature, well-structured piece of software. It integrates cleaning and security features in one place, keeping your smartphone free of unnecessary applications. The interface uses clear colours to represent different zones and cleaning paths on your home map.

Mapping accuracy was spot on. I could clearly see the layout of my living room, the position of our sofas, and the boundaries of the tiled areas. The app allows for specific room cleaning or area-based tasks. For example, if the hallway is particularly dirty from tracked-in dirt, you can simply tap that area and instruct the robot to clean it with higher suction.

The software also shows surface awareness. It knows which parts of the house have rugs and which are hard floors. This allows the robot to adjust its suction power automatically when moving from tile to carpet. You can also set custom routines, making it easy to schedule a light clean for high-traffic areas like the kitchen while leaving other rooms untouched.

Verdict

The Eufy S2 is a powerful tool for pet owners and anyone seeking a hands-off cleaning experience. Its superior suction, self-cleaning mechanics, and impressive edge coverage make it a top contender in the premium robot vacuum market.
