Aosu SolarCam D1 classic review: 2K solar security camera with 360° tracking and no compulsory subscription
With 347° pan and 90° tilt, the D1 Classic covers almost every angle. Picture: Aosu.
The Aosu SolarCam D1 Classic offers high-resolution security with virtually zero maintenance. By combining 2K QHD clarity and a full 360° field of view with a sustainable solar-powered design, Aosu has eliminated the two biggest headaches of home security: messy wiring and constant battery recharging. For a set-and-forget solution, the D1 Classic has a compelling mix of intelligence and independence.

The SolarCam D1 Classic is built to withstand Irish weather, thanks to an IP65 weatherproof rating. It feels robust enough to handle everything from torrential rain to winter frosts. The integrated high-conversion solar panel means you don’t require a separate panel and a long cable. The build quality feels premium for the price, and the mounting process is straightforward, making for a simple, wire-free installation. The cameras feature two external antennas, and even the one I installed at the end of my small garden had no signal problems.
I received the two cameras and a base station pack for my review. The base station comes with 32GB of built-in storage, but there’s no way to add more via an SD or microSD card. There is a USB-A port, but the documentation doesn’t say what it's for or if it supports external drives. There’s also an Ethernet port for connecting to your broadband modem or network switch.
The 2K QHD resolution (2304 x 1296) cameras provide a noticeable jump in detail over standard 1080p, making it much easier to identify faces or vehicle registration plates.
The camera’s versatility stems from its pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) capabilities, which provide 347° of horizontal and 90° of vertical rotation. This effectively eliminates blind spots. When paired with AI-driven human recognition and automatic tracking, the camera doesn't just record; it can follow the action. It has four LED lights for full-colour night vision, which is a nice touch, but it can still switch over to standard black-and-white infrared if needed.

Setting up the home base and cameras was straightforward thanks to Bluetooth auto-pairing, which made connecting to the AOSU app a breeze. I mounted one camera overlooking my back garden and the other facing the front; with the 360° panoramic view, I could monitor both areas without any blind spots.
The human tracking is responsive. I walked across the garden, and the camera pivoted smoothly to keep me in frame as it followed my every move.
The two-way audio was clear enough to shout a quick “hello” to a courier, and the solar charging worked efficiently, maintaining a full battery even during a particularly overcast week.

One of the most refreshing aspects of the SolarCam D1 Classic is the storage flexibility. While some competitors lock your footage behind a monthly paywall, Aosu supports local SD card recording. This means you can store your clips locally without a recurring subscription fee.
For those who prefer a connected ecosystem, the camera also integrates smoothly with Alexa and Google Assistant, allowing you to check your feed via voice command.
I prefer local storage, but if you do decide to go for AosuProtect+, it’ll cost you €12.99 a month or €129.99 a year for two cameras. That gives you cloud video recordings, event categorisation, Secure AWS encryption and 30 days of cloud storage.
The Aosu SolarCam D1 Classic has excellent 2K clarity, solar charging, and wide-angle tracking. It provides professional-grade security without the professional-grade setup, installation, or price tag. Highly recommended.
