Mixx StreamBuds Solo 2: Affordable true wireless buds with a dash of style

Until recently, I was unaware of a brand that offers cost-effective yet high-quality audio solutions, including their latest offering, the Mixx StreamBuds Solo true wireless earbuds range. The audio firm has been around since 2008, so they’re far from a newcomer.
The StreamBuds Solo promises a fusion of functionality and sleek design. It boasts an impressive array of features, including up to 18 hours of playtime, hands-free calling, customisable ear cushions, and touch sensor controls, all geared towards offering comfort and convenience.

The StreamBuds Solo range offers a choice of capsule, hybrid, or silicon fit options, alongside four colour selections: black, white, champagne, and blue metal. I was sent the Solo 2 for this review, which is the hybrid style, similar to the one-size-fits-all AirPods shape.
The Solo 2 has one of the more unique and stylish-looking charging cases I’ve seen. It features a wrap-over silicon flap rather than the more traditional lid with a hinge design. The flap flips over the buds to keep them in place, and they stay closed with a simple magnet. The case is small and easily pocketable.
There’s a single LED on the case that indicates the charging status. Overall, the build quality is fine, but you’d know these are not premium buds.
4.5 hours of playtime on a single charge is far from exceptional. However, the magnetic flip-top case provides an additional 13.5 hours for 18 hours of audio playback. Moreover, the quick charge feature ensures two extra hours of playtime in just 15 minutes. Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, they don’t have a wireless charging option at this price point.

The StreamBuds Solo features automatic dual pairing and reconnection whenever removed from the case. Meanwhile, the earbuds' touch buttons simplify music control, allowing you to play, pause, answer calls, or activate Google Assistant or Siri with a single touch.
Recognising the common issue of ill-fitting earbuds, Mixx offers a solution with capsule, hybrid, or silicon fit options. The Hybrid Solo 2 fit my ears perfectly and provided excellent comfort, even for long sessions. However,
There’s no Mixx companion app, so there’s no way to update the firmware, customise the touch controls or access a built-in graphic equaliser. Also, you won't find it here if you’re looking for active noise cancellation. However, while the Hybrid Solo 2 doesn’t offer much passive noise reduction, the silicon fit option should provide some.
In line with its commitment to sustainability, Mixx prioritizes eco-friendly packaging. All materials are FSC-certified and derived from sustainable sources. Moreover, the company utilises 30% recycled plastic in its packaging, which is 100% recyclable.

The Mixx StreamBuds Solo packs a punch for bass, delivering a powerful and resonant low-end experience. However, while the mids hold their ground adequately, the highs leave something to be desired, appearing muted and almost imperceptible.
If you’re more into podcasts and audiobooks than music, these buds do a great job pleasantly presenting dialogue. However, don’t expect the same richness and depth in narrators' voices as you’d get from more expensive buds.
the Mixx StreamBuds Solo true wireless earbuds range presents a compelling option for budget-conscious consumers seeking reliable audio performance with a touch of style. While it may not offer all the bells and whistles of premium competitors, its blend of functionality, affordability, and sustainability makes it a worthy consideration for those prioritising value.
