Frozen is heading for Broadway

Unsurprisingly, Disney isn't ready to let Frozen go just yet. The smash hit is heading for Broadway with a launch planned in the spring of 2018. This will follow a preparatory production somewhere outside New York next year.

The movie's songwriters, Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, are handling the adaptation, alongside the film's screenwriter Jennifer Lee.

There is a difference between a stage production and film, but Lopez has proven Broadway experience having written the musicals The Book of Mormon and Avenue Q.

The show also boasts talent like Tony-winning choreographer Pete Darling and Golden Globe-winning director Alex Timbers. At least fans can be relatively sure that the production is in safe hands.

The Broadway production was tentatively announced in 2014, but there's more of a roadmap in place now. Meanwhile, Disney plans to release a new Frozen film for TV in 2017, as well as a full sequel.

Disney has had success on Broadway and the West End over the years, and with the Frozen name attached to this production, another hit is practically guaranteed.
