Microsoft now owns SwiftKey

SwiftKey, the smart keyboard that lets you swipe letters to type out messages, is now officially under the Microsoft umbrella.

In a blog post, SwiftKey said that this is the perfect match. "Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. Our mission is to enhance interaction between people and technology. We think these are a perfect match," it wrote.

The deal is reportedly worth $250 million, according to the Financial Times.

SwiftKey became free with paid upgrades when it was made available on iOS 8 in 2014. SwiftKey cofounders Jon Reynolds and Ben Medlock say that there are no plans to revert back to charging users.

Microsoft may not be able to get its phones into the pockets of everyone, but at least it will have a foothold one way or another with apps such as SwiftKey and services like Cortana.
