Dragon's Lair movie flees to Indiegogo
That's no good for anyone, certainly not the owners of the campaign or the excited backers, so the news that Dragon's Lair the movie has nobly fled from Kickstarter isn't necessarily negative. The campaign launched on the 26th of October and was cancelled on the 24th of November with less than half of its $550,000 goal obtained. Happily for interested backers, the team have set up again at Indiegogo with a number of important changes.
The new page will offer faster better and stronger rewards (probably) but the biggest difference is the target - just $250,000. Now that's only ten grand more than they had already received on Kickstarter so it's well within reach, provided they can convert a decent number of the original backers.
What's Dragon's Lair? Well let us take you back to the simpler times of 1983...
Dang, Don Bluth looks old! The famed animation house, which used to have a studio in Ireland, is behind classics like The Secret of NIMH, An American Tail and The Land Before Time - all gorgeously made classics. The company suffered a few disastrous releases and all but disappeared from existence as the likes of Pixar and Dreamworks began their rise.
So they're going back to a computer game they made in 1983 to make a feature film version. While the name recognition of Dragon's Lair may be better, we'd love to see a sequel to pretty much any of their other properties - though The Land Before Time already has about 10, best to leave that one be.
Check out the rewards and see if you're interested in bringing this dinosaur back. Hopefully they'll have more luck with this new campaign. This cash will just about manage to pay for a four minute reel to sell the larger project to a studio, with an estimated budget of $70 million. We're going to come right out and say this now, even if the campaign reaches its goal, there's a very good chance that movie will never happen. Still, fingers crossed!
