Fallout 4 tops charts - ships 12 million
Fans have been waiting for a full eight years for a new numbered entry in the Fallout universe from Bethesda and their showed their support with massive opening week sales. The game shot right to the top of the UK charts, an especially impressive feat given the fact that it was competing with the latest entry in the Call of Duty series.
We don't have specific sales figures just yet but Fallout 4 has the third highest opening number of sales in 2015, just behind Call of Duty Black Ops 3 and FIFA 16. Considering the fact that it exists in the much more niche RPG genre, that's quite an achivement. Chart Track also confirmed that it sold 213 percent more copies than Fallout New Vegas did at launch in 2010.
The only official word from Bethesda right now is that the game has shipped 12 million units. It's an impressive figure but doesn't actually reflect sales, just the kind of demand they're expecting to have to fill before the end of the year. We do know that over 470,000 players logged into the game on the Steam platform on PC at the same time,m with over 1.2 million players on day one. They're huge figures if you take into account a per unit price of at least €60.
Here's the UK videogame chart right now. Rise of the Tomb Raider had a solid debut considering its an Xbox console exclusive and only arrive on the 13th of November while the rest of the big hitters are looking like they'll also be big earners for Christmas:
