Massive Xbox One Dashboard update out now

We've been hearing about it for a long time now but the Xbox One's new dashboard update is finally here - and you can download it right now.

We had to go into our SETTINGS - SYSTEM - UPDATE CONSOLE to force the Xbox One to look for the new content, and the download was a hefty enough 1154 megabytes. It downloaded in just a minute or so, then restarted the console as we're used to with updates.

The main thing that is set to change is the home screen, which should make quite a difference for users. The Xbox One dash was always that bit clunkier than the PS4's streamlined interface and this update should change things for the better. Microsoft has been focussing on the speed of the experience and making the options you use most readily available. Here's a video with some of the new content. With a very enthusiastic Major Nelson.

Tips is a great addition - there's nothing worse than having new features which your users aren't taking advantage of because they simply don't know how to get there. The other big addition in this update is Backwards Compatability which lets you play 104 Xbox 360 games right on your Xbox One. You can do it just by inserting a physical disk (which is absolutely great to hear) or alternatively it will automatically be available if you previously owned a digital version of a supported game.
