Samsung may push up release of next flagship phone

Samsung may be planning to move up the release of its next Galaxy S smartphone to January in a bid to compete better with Apple and its new iPhones.

Samsung may push up release of next flagship phone

That’s according to South Korea's Electronic Times, which cited unnamed sources. A Samsung spokeswoman was unwilling to comment on the rumour.

Samsung typically announces a new Galaxy S handset at Mobile World Congress, which takes place in February. However, it revealed the Galaxy Note 5 in August of this year, rather than September, which has resulted in speculation that future releases will be pushed up too.

This isn’t the first we’re hearing about the Galaxy S7. It was previously reported that the handset will be announced in “premium” and “sub-premium” variants. It’s expected to be powered by three different processors depending on the market; feature a display with 3D Touch-like technology; have a USB Type-C port; and may feature a dual-camera setup with a 20 megapixel sensor.

Whether Samsung plans to announce the Galaxy S7 in January or not, we’re likely to hear a lot about the handset in the coming months.
