Mirror's Edge songsmith back for Catalyst
Back in 2008, Battlefield makers DICE released a game called Mirror's Edge. It was a parkour spiced action game about a dystopian future where runners try to survive against a brutal regime. And it was an utterly unique and incredibly beautiful experience.
In fact, its one of those rare games which actually plays like its trailer. Which I remember watching over and over back in the day.
Thankfully, after many years of waiting we're about to get a new game in the series, Mirror's Edge Catalyst, which will be about the previous adventures of our favourite runner Faith. Maybe we'll even get to find out how she was injured ahead of the events of the second game?
There's more good news today as we've found out another key component of the success of the first game is back for Catalyst - Solar Fields. That's the stage name for Swedish composer Magnus Birgersson who will be once more crafting the tunes - following on from his amazing and evocative work in 2008. And he's already deep in work on the new game:
"Today I’ve been experimenting with the Mirror’s Edge theme by dissolving that piece of music using what’s known as granular synthesis. I’m playing around with these particle clouds to see what sounds are recognisable and iconic even when the music is dissolved, and to see if there are any new aspects in there I can work with."
That's from an interview over on the official DICE blog, and you can also listen to a sample from Catalyst here.
