The PlayStation VR headset could cost 500 quid
SCE's Andrew House was chatting to Bloomberg and they got onto the subject of the new platform, which will let you use VR-enabled games on your PlayStation 4, together with motion sensing controllers like the PlayStation Move. And while he wouldn't confirm an exact price, he did say that it would be roughly the same as buying an entirely new games console.
That's a vague enough answer but it does give us a place to work from. Taking the most recent examples, the PS4 launched at €399 while the Xbox One started at €499. It's reasonable to assume that the cost of the VR will fall somewhere between the two. But bear in mind you'll already have had to shell out for the PS4 console and at least a couple of controllers. And that's before you've bought a single game.
And this is for technology which remains all but unproven, given that a major consumer VR headset hasn't yet launched. We've got plenty on the horizon and the first out the gate will have to make serious waves to ensure the future viability of the tech.
More news on the PlayStation VR as we get it.
