VIDEO The Lobster trailer - bizarre stuff with Colin Farrell

The Lobster is a dystopian sci-fi film shot in Kerry in 2014 with a bunch of big stars like Colin Farrell, Rachel Weisz, John C Reilly, Olivia Colman and Lea Seydoux. And it looks like just about the weirdest thing ever.

"In a dystopian near future, single people, according to the laws of The City, are taken to The Hotel, where they are obliged to find a romantic partner in forty-five days or are transformed into beasts and sent off into The Woods."

So...

Actually this oddness isn't at all surprising from director Yorgos Lanthimos, who brought the deeply strange Dogtooth to screens in 2009. This is his first English language production and his profile has attracted one heck of a cast. The film premiered at Cannes and won a Jury Prize so it definitely appeal to a festival audience. It remains to be seen whether it has mass market appeal. It does look very funny.

The Lobster is in cinemas in October 2015.
